Introduction

IPL PhotoFacial

We all want clear, beautiful skin. Unfortunately, nature and the aging process aren’t always on our side when it comes to this desire. Environmental pollution, sun damage, stress, smoking, and other elements can wreak havoc on our complexion over time. As we hit the late twenties and early thirties, most of us start to notice our skin gradually losing its once-radiant glow. Around this time, the skin starts to produce less collagen, fine lines begin to emerge and the complexion starts to take on a dull, ashen hue.

As our body matures, cellular processes begin to slow down and the skin tissue has a reduced capacity for regeneration and repair. Years of sun exposure and damage slowly become evident in the form of hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone.

THE TREATMENT YOU’VE BEEN WAITING FOR

WHAT IS IPL PHOTOFACIAL?

IPL Photofacial can be used to improve the appearance of photo-aged skin, sun-induced freckles, age spots, redness caused by broken capillaries, and most benign brown pigments. This process is often referred to as photorejuvenation and requires minimal to no downtime, making it an ideal solution for those with active lifestyles.

During this non-invasive procedure, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is applied in a series of gentle pulses over the treatment area. IPL uses a range of wavelengths of light that target brown (and, to a lesser degree, red) discoloration. IPL Photofacial heats the structures that hold the color, selectively damaging or destroying the pigment (sunspot) or blood vessel. The pigment is effectively broken up and sloughs off over several days. The result is a more even and brighter complexion. Additionally, IPL can stimulate collagen synthesis in the dermis, producing a smoother, tighter skin texture.

WHAT’S THE FIRST STEP?

When you are prepared to undergo IPL Photofacial in Austin, the first step is to contact Personique for your consultation. During this appointment, you will meet with your technician who will go over your medical history and discuss the procedure with you. It is important to be open and honest when discussing your health and medical history as it provides the best results while eliminating unnecessary risks. The technician will examine your skin and create a treatment plan for you. If you agree with their evaluation, you can either stick around for your first treatment or reschedule for a time that is better for you.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE DAY OF IPL PHOTOFACIAL?

When it’s time for your IPL Photofacial, you will be pleased to know that treatments are fairly simple with very little discomfort. You will be provided with eye protection and the technician will begin by applying a cold gel to the treatment area to help make your experience as pleasant as possible. Then, based on your skin’s evaluation, the appropriate light setting is chosen to produce the best results. These pulses of light are performed in short bursts to the treated area.

The entire treatment can be completed in about 30 minutes.

IPL PHOTOFACIAL RECOVERY

After an IPL Photofacial session, there is usually some minor redness that will resolve within a few hours. Any remaining redness can easily be concealed with makeup and you can return to work or normal activities the same day. The results of your IPL photofacial therapy are long-lasting and sustaining a proper skin care regimen afterward will help maintain your results even longer.

IPL Photofacial in Austin is usually completed in a series of 3 to 6 treatments administered approximately one month apart. How many treatments you require depends largely on your skin tone and the extent of photodamage to be treated. IPL Photofacial sessions typically last about 30-45 minutes. A topical numbing cream can be applied before the treatment to reduce any pain or discomfort.
