Anesthesia for Liposuction Surgery

All of our Austin liposuction procedures are performed using local anesthesia with intravenous sedation. This safe sedation technique is less prone to complications than general anesthesia, which affects the whole body. Local anesthesia on the other hand, only numbs the area affected by the surgery, and the patient is given sedatives, delivered directly into the bloodstream. This form of safe sedation, also referred to as 'twilight sleep', does not render the patient completely unconscious and they are still able to breathe on their own, but are sleeping through the surgery and will not remember the procedure. Liposuction Method & Techniques

During your Austin liposuction procedure, your surgeon will make small incisions in the skin to insert a hollow, wand-like device called a cannula, which is attached to a vacuum device.
Liposuction incisions are very small, less than 1/2" in length, made in inconspicuous areas like natural skin folds.
Fatty deposits and cells between the skin and muscle are then broken up and gently suctioned with a vacuum attachment.
The length of your Austin liposuction procedure will depend on the number and extent of areas treated. However, typical lipo procedures last around 1 - 2 hours.
