Who Can Benefit from Breast Augmentation in Austin?
Breast augmentation in Austin is a procedure considered by women of all ages and from various backgrounds, and their reasons for undergoing the procedure are just as wide-ranging.
Underdeveloped Breasts
Many of our Austin breast implant patients come to us ready for a change after facing years of poor body image and embarrassment due to underdeveloped breasts. While it may seem petty to some people, Micromastia (the medical term for postpubertal underdevelopment of a woman's breast tissue) can have significant personal, psychological and social impacts on a woman. Many women view their breasts as an essential component to their femininity and sexuality. For a flat-chested female, her small breasts can be a source of nagging dissatisfaction and low self-esteem. Individuals who are not completely happy with the size and shape of their breasts can benefit from breast augmentation surgery.
Uneven Breasts
Up to 90% of women have asymmetrical breasts to some degree when it comes to size and position. Up to 25% of women have breasts that display visibly perceptible asymmetry, wherein breasts differ in size by at least one cup size. For some of these women, this disparity can be severe. When the difference is overly pronounced, the impact on the individual's self body image can be quite negative. For some, uneven breasts can be such a source of anxiety that it can affect their intimate relationships and cause them to feel uncomfortable in certain attire, like tight-fitting clothing, swimsuits or low-cut tops. Austin breast augmentation can help balance the appearance of a woman's bust. There are essentially two options for correcting asymmetrical breasts. The patient may opt to have breast reduction performed on the larger breast to match the smaller breast, or choose to augment the smaller breast using a breast implant.
Sagging or Deflated Breasts
Women who have slight sagging of the breasts (Breast Ptosis) or who have lost fullness in the top portion of the breast can also benefit from breast augmentation. Many of our Austin breast augmentation patients are women who are unhappy with the appearance of their breasts after pregnancy. Postpartum breast involution is the term used to describe the shrinking of the milk-producing structures of the breast back to their pre-pregnancy state. Pregnancy and breast-feeding can cause the breasts to enlarge and the breast skin to stretch to some degree. Afterward (and especially with multiple pregnancies) the breasts may look empty or stretched out.
Childbearing is not the sole culprit for the cause of drooping breasts however. Sagging is an inevitable part of life, and all body tissues are susceptible to the effects of gravity over time. The connective tissues that support the breasts are essentially being stretched by the weight of the breasts and gravity constantly. This is why women with extremely large breasts will be affected earlier and often to a higher degree of stretching. This loss of elasticity in supporting ligaments, as well as diminishing collagen and thinning skin, is what creates the appearance of sagging breasts. Other contributing factors include fluctuation in weight and genetics.
Austin breast augmentation surgery can benefit women with mild sagging of the breasts. Women with moderate or significant sagging will likely benefit more from a breast lift. However, breast lift surgery alone will not enhance volume or round out the upper part of the breast where lost volume has occurred. This is why many of our Austin breast surgery patients undergo breast lift and breast augmentation procedures at the same time for the most complete form of breast enhancement.
