Anti-Aging Medicine
It is now possible to not only stop the ravages of age, but reverse the degenerating affects of aging. This goal is achieved by modifying the metabolism of the old to that of the young.
Recent studies have verified that by replacing growth hormone, testosterone and a variety of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients, it is possible to reverse many of the affects of aging. Those include decreasing cholesterol, increasing vital capacity( a measure of lung health), decreasing osteoporosis and actually increasing bone density, decreasing body fat and increasing lean body mass (muscle).
By repairing the physiology of the old cell, the cell then begins to act and function at a much more youthful and healthful level, in esence, achieving rejuvenation and reversal of aging.
A good example of anti-aging medicine is estrogen replacement therapy. When initially developed it was for the relief of hot flashes and other symptoms of menopause. After 4 decades of treatment has shown that it reduces death from cardiovascular disease and stroke by 50%. Estrogen prevents osteoporosis, lowers the risk of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and Diabetes, smooths and firms the skin, sharpens memory and lifts the spirit . We know that by enhancing the quality of life, we can increase the quality of life as well. Ressearch published in the Journal of the American Medical Association indicates an increase in the life span of 0.3 to 2.3 years for the patients who receive estrogen replacement therapy.
Replacing the hormones which decline with age such as estrogen, testosterone, DHEA, melatonin and now human growth hormone, is as important to the treatment of aging as is replacing normal levels of insulin to an insulin-dependent diabetic.Combined with exercise, proper diet and nutrients you can look, feel, and act younger, healthier and happier.
The key to an effective anti-aging program is to first establish a baseline for most body functions and hormone and other blood composition levels. Then specific therapies are prescribed based on these initial tests. Every few months additional testing verifies the improvement in blood chemistry levels and body function and medications, doses, and hormones are regulated in accordance with the results of these tests.
Call us for an evaluation and a series of age function tests. Based on these we will discuss a variety of hormonal replacement and other therapies as indicated by our physician.
Background
In 1990, Rutman published the first double blind study that indicated our ability to reverse the ravages of ages. He treated a group of 60-year-olds with human growth hormone and did not alter their diet, exercise, or any other factors just replace growth hormone in an attempt to bring it back to where it may have been at age 20 or 30. He discovered that the treated group reduced their body fat by 14.4% and increased lean muscle mass by 8.8%. This began a series of studies and experiments with other hormones that have resulted in hundreds of studies and thousands of patients that have actually improved their body function and decreased effects of aging.
The following example shows the levels of hormones at indicated age groups. All hormones decrease significantly as you age.

H Scan
The H Scan is a computerized method of evaluating our body's age. It may not correspond with your age in years but by testing our seeing ability, our coordination, our breathing capacity, several other easily measured parameters we can compare our function with that of thousands of normals to find out what our level of performance is. That is the h-scan measures your chronological age versus your performance age age gives us a combined score age.
We then evaluate your blood chemistries and hormone levels and develop a treatment plan. The recommendations may be as simple as a variety of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients to bring our body function to near optimum. In some younger patients (under age 50), it may be possible to merely treat them with secretagogues medications that increase the secretions of your own body's hormones. With periodic re-testing, no further replacement therapy may be necessary.
In older individuals, the deficiencies are usually so profound that hormone replacement is required. That may involve daily treatment of creams or oral medications and in the case of human growth hormones, it may require self-injection.
The tables below shows the score that was obtained on the h-scan test by a patient .
The percentiles column, designated"%-ILE", shows how you compare to others of your age and sex on each test, based on tests of 2,462 office workers. For example, a %-ILE of 78 indicates you scored better than 78% of persons of your age and sex, while 50 is average. The percentiles are also plotted on the bar graph.
The computer calculates the ages of which each test score is typical. It then produces a weighted average age based on combination of test scores.
Cross-range Cost
The cross range is from a minimum of $150 per month to a maximum of about $1,200 per month for a complete program.
The first step is to find out what your level of aging is. Then access the treatments that may be reasonable for your situation.
We have several programs that will be taylored to each individual patient.
We are co-investigators in the FDA reviewed protocol study that will help establish the beneficial effects of human growth hormone in healthy, aging individuals. For patients who do not qualify for this study for a variety of reasons, we have a complete menu of other treatment programs available.
